Surfside Man, On Probation, Had 14 Guns, Ammo, Fake Grenade: Police

A Surfside man who is on probation is again under arrest after police discovered multiple rifles, a large amount of ammunition and a fake grenade inside his home.

Surfside Police received a tip that 62-year-old Anthony Francisco Campos may have had firearms inside his home located at 9125 Dickens Avenue in Surfside.

After an unannounced search of that home, probation officers uncovered 14 rifles and a large quantity of ammunition inside a cabinet in the home. Officers also found a grenade which was later determined to be fake.

Campos was arrested and taken to jail. The weapons, ammo and police paraphernalia were impounded by Surfside Police.

"Usually if you have guns and they are legally possessed then that is not an issue but in this case we have someone with a criminal history who is on probation for past criminal history and is not allowed to be in possession of any firearms," Surfside Police Det. Marian Cruz said.

According to police, Campos portrays himself as a retired Miami-Dade Police Sergeant. The validity of this claim is not immediately known.

Campos resides in that home with his girlfriend, Gloria Acuna, and two children. Acuna claims to be a Miami-Dade elected official, but according to police, this claim is not true.

Acuna is not under arrest, nor is she under any type of investigation.

Neighbors said they've been complaining about barking dogs at the property owned by Campos for a long time.

Surfside Police ask that anyone with information on either Campos or Acuna please contact Detective Gambirazio at 305-777-1592.
