Suspect Arrested in Hollywood Sexual Assault, Police Say

A suspect was arrested Thursday in connection with the recent sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl in Hollywood, police said.

Freddie Lee Gardner Jr., 24, was taken into custody at about 5 p.m. at 1524 N. 22nd Ave. and faces two counts of sexual battery and one count of kidnapping, police said.

He was arrested after detectives received anonymous tips from residents about the identity and location of the perpetrator in the case, police said.

The victim was walking south on South 24th Avenue near Jackson Street on Saturday at about 9:44 p.m. when the suspect grabbed her and forced her into his minivan, according to police. He then drove her to an alleyway on the 2700 block of Pierce Street where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

It wasn't immediately known whether Gardner has an attorney.
