Suspect Attacked Miami Gas Station Clerk With Lead Pipe: Police

Miami Police said they are looking for a male suspect who attacked a Biscayne Boulevard gas station clerk with a lead pipe in an armed robbery Tuesday morning.

The clerk, Arif Chowdhury, wiped blood from his head outside the Valero gas station at 7791 Biscayne Blvd. after the assault, which took place at about 10:05 a.m.

"He didn't ask me anything. He just came and hit me, so I fought him back," Chowdhury said.

Chowdhury was beaten with the pipe for a cash register with just a few dollars inside.

"He just kept hitting me, kept hitting me," Chowdhury said. "He tried to unconscious me, so I fell down on the ground. I'm feeling a lot of pain on my body, my whole body, but I couldn't get him. He ran away."

One witness described seeing the suspect emerge from the gas station.

"I saw a big guy come out with a cash register," he said. "He was parked at this gas pump right here, number three. He dumped it in his truck."

Now police are looking for the suspect they describe as a bald, clean-shaven, white man, 5'10" and 250 pounds, who was wearing a gray T-shirt and black shorts, with a bandage around his lower right leg. He was seen leaving the area in a 1998 red Jeep Cherokee with the license plate 371 WVX.

Authorities ask anyone with information on the case to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
