The man accused of shooting a North Miami Beach Police officer Friday has been charged with first-degree attempted murder.
Elton Bandoo, 26, is being held without bond after police say he shot Officer Lino Diaz as officers were serving a federal search warrant to a home on the 16000 block of NE 8th Avenue around 6 a.m.
North Miami Beach Police said Diaz was struck twice by bullets before he entered the home. Diaz was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center with gunshot wounds to the arm and leg. Doctors estimated Diaz would be hospitalized for three days.
Bandoo told police he thought his house was being robbed as officers knocked on the door.
Bandoo is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
