Armed Suspect Fatally Shot by Miami Gardens Police After Hitting Officer, Crashing Into Home

Miami Gardens Police officials said officers fatally shot an armed suspect who was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle when the suspect struck an officer and slammed into a home.

The incident occurred early Friday while Miami Gardens officers were conducting a traffic operation.

Officers encountered a stolen vehicle and attempted to get the driver's attention, police said. That person attempted to flee while in the vehicle.

The suspect drove a few feet away and hit a police officer before crashing into a home in the area of Northwest 189th Street and Northwest 1st Avenue.

Officials said the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Police later identified him as 21-year-old Neico G. Crooks.

The officer who was struck is expected to recover. A second officer was also injured in the encounter.

Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene.

A woman who was in the home at the time said 11 people, including three children, were inside but no one was injured.
