Suspect Hospitalized After Lauderhill Officer-Involved Shooting

The Lauderhill Police Department said an officer-involved shooting occurred after a Sunrise gas station was robbed on Sunday.

Sunrise Police Department officers were called after a robbery was reported at the Valero gas station located at 6000 W. Oakland Park Boulevard in Sunrise at about 9 a.m., LPD said.

The suspect fled the scene and the Sunrise Police Department issued a "be on the lookout" alert for the suspect, notifying nearby law enforcement agencies.

A Lauderhill Police Department officer heard the alert and saw the suspect a few blocks away from the gas station. When the officer confronted the suspect, the suspect shot at the officer who returned fire, according to police.

The suspect was struck and transported to Fort Lauderdale's Broward Health Medical Center in a stable condition, LPD said. The officer was not injured.

Police haven't released the suspect's name.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident – as is the protocol with police-involved shootings.
