Police responding to burglary call open fire, suspect injured

A suspect was hospitalized after officers opened fire while investigating a burglary in Hialeah early Wednesday, police said.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. when officers responded to a call of a burglary in the area of E. 27th Street and 10th Avenue, Hialeah Police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez said.

When the officers arrived they spotted a man leaving the scene and attempted to stop him, Rodriguez said. At one point, at least one of the officers opened fire, hitting the man in the neck, police said.

"There is one pickup truck that was involved, the subject vehicle, it did crash into some parked cars," Rodriguez said.

The suspect, who wasn't identified, is expected to be okay. No officers were injured.

"The subject was injured, he was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, that's where he's at right now in police custody," Rodriguez said.

The incident is still being investigated.
