Suspect Injured Following Police-Involved Shooting in Aventura

An investigation is underway following a police-involved shooting in Aventura.

The incident took place Sunday night at the Camden Apartments, located at the 3100 block of Northeast 190th Street.

Officials said the subject was being treated for his injuries. No police officers were injured in the shooting.

Police said they received a call about a man who was in crisis. When they arrived, they found that the man had barricaded himself in his apartment.

The man left his apartment and confronted police with a handgun. That's when police shot him in the leg.

"None of our officers were injured. Everybody on our end is fine, and no witnesses or bystanders were injured in this," said Major Michael Bentolila, of Aventura Police.

He was taken to the hospital, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the scene has been secured and is safe for all residents.

"We understand the mental health issues that we come in contact with on a daily basis. We try to do everything we can to deal with any of these circumstances. But sometimes, unfortunately, the person takes it to a level where it now becomes a point of having to protect ourselves," said Major Bentolila.
