A convenience store clerk was caught on surveillance video attempting to stop a robber at the Lauderdale Lakes establishment.

The robbery happened in the afternoon on July 24 at the 19th Street Food Stop, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The suspect is a frequent customer nicknamed "Pitbull." Surveillance footage shows "Pitbull" jumping over the counter.

The clerk, Morgan Lefevre, told NBC 6 his actions were unexpected. In the footage, Lefevre tries to get "Pitbull" to leave. She is relentless and tussles with him to prevent the robbery, but he ends up grabbing the money pouch at the register and runs away.

Lefevre yells for help and is seen on surveillance following him out of the store.

According to BSO, the clerk's boyfriend chased after the suspect and even struck him with a rock but retreated when the suspect met with a group of friends.

Lefevre said "Pitbull" has even asked about a job at the store in the past.

He's described as 20 to 30 years old and of Haitian descent but does not speak with a notable accent. He is approximately 5-foot-9 with a stocky build, a slight belly and a brush cut.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call BSO Robbery Detective Armando Enrique at 954-321-4270 or Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
