Suspect Kicked in Head by Miami Police Officer Pleads Guilty

The suspect who was kicked in the head by a Miami Police officer has accepted a plea deal for the charges over which he was controversially arrested.

David Suazo, 31, plead guilty and will serve two and a half years in prison, judge Lisa Walsh ruled on Tuesday.

Former Miami police officer Mario Figueroa kicked Suazo – who was lying on his stomach while restrained by another officer – in the head while running.

The May 3 incident was captured on video and the City of Miami's police chief fired Figueroa after an internal investigation.

According to an arrest report, officers spotted Suazo driving a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee. When officers tried to stop him, Suazo quickly sped away toward an apartment complex but lost control and hit a wall at a dead end.

The report said Suazo took a "fighting stance" and then tried to run away from officers as they tried to arrest him.

Suazo was charged with grand theft of a vehicle, fleeing or eluding a police officer, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
