Suspect Robs, Shoots Woman Near Dadeland: Miami-Dade Police

Miami-Dade Police are looking for a man who allegedly robbed a woman of her purse and shot her Thursday morning.

Police said the incident occurred at Southwest 80th Street and 71st Avenue in the Dadeland area of southwest Miami-Dade.

Home surveillance video, obtained exclusively by NBC 6, shows a portion of the crime in the player above.

Investigators said the victim, 33-year-old Xiu Li Wang, was walking to pick up her son from school, when the suspect drove up next to her. They said he got out, grabbed the woman's purse and then shot her in the leg.

The man fled the scene. Wang was transported to South Miami Hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 30s and was wearing a white shirt with black pants, and has a stalky build. He was driving a white Chevrolet compact vehicle.

Angel Ortiz witnessed the violent struggle and tried to help, "I saw the girl screaming and I tried to help her but when I got close to the car, I saw a gun and 'boom' one time."

Wang and her husband have only been in Miami for a few weeks. They're here on a year-long teacher exchange program from China.
