Suspect Wanted for Stealing Firearm From FHP Chaplain's Vehicle: MDPD

Miami-Dade Police are investigating a vehicle burglary and looking for the public's help identifying the suspect who was caught on camera.

The vehicle belongs to Florida Highway Patrol Chaplain Mark Rosenberg.

It happened on Jan. 14 at approximately 9:15 p.m. near Northeast 171st Street and Northeast 7th Avenue in Miami.

Investigators said a male suspect arrived on a bicycle and entered the unlocked driver's side door. They said he stole a Glock 43 firearm from the console and a cellphone from the passenger seat.

"It's just another gun in the hands of criminals. When guns land in the wrong hands, that's when it becomes dangerous," said Alvaro Zabaleta with MDPD.

The vehicle was equipped with a dashcam and investigators were able to pull images of the suspect. In the video, he's seen looking through the vehicle and stealing the items.

"That's what happens when criminals are focused on committing a crime. They're not looking at their surroundings, they're zoned in on what they have to do," Zabaleta explained.

The suspect is described as between 16 and 21 years of age, 5'11" and 170 pounds with medium length wavy black hair and a thin build.

Anyone with information on the suspect or this crime is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
