Suspect Wanted in Hollywood Sex Battery, Burglaries Arrested: Police

A suspect wanted for a series of Hollywood burglaries including one that involved a sexual battery in a gated community in December has been charged, authorities said.

Shawn Michael Wright, 27, is facing multiple charges including armed sexual battery, armed kidnapping and occupied armed burglary, Hollywood Police said in a news release Thursday.

"It was very scary and very traumatic for our community because this is supposed to be a safe, gated community," said one local resident. "It was just crazy."

Police said Wright was identified as a suspect in the Dec. 12 incident that involved two residential burglaries and a car burglary in the Hollywood Oaks community.

Just days after the alleged crimes, on Dec. 18, Wright was taken into custody by Miami-Dade Police on a warrant from Michigan for a home invasion parole violation, officials said. During their investigation, Miami-Dade Police also filed narcotics and weapons charges against Wright, officials said.

Wright was expected to be extradited to Broward to face the new charges, officials said. He remained behind bars without bond Thursday, and attorney information wasn't available.

"I'm so happy he's behind bars," said the resident. The person he assaulted, she's part of this community. It was so scary."
