Suspect Arrested in MacArthur Causeway Hit-Run Crash: FHP

The scooter rider was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where the person was listed in critical but stable condition, the Florida Highway Patrol says

A suspect has been taken into custody in a hit-and-run crash that left a scooter rider seriously injured on the MacArthur Causeway, the Florida Highway Patrol said Saturday.

The scooter rider, Jean Colas, 66, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where Colas was listed in critical but stable condition, the agency said. The suspect, Christopher Prestol, 27, was arrested on charges of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident, the Highway Patrol said.

Though the scooter rider was found after the crash on the causeway, the scooter was apparently dragged by the hit-and-run vehicle and found a few miles away in front of a Hyatt hotel in downtown Miami, the agency said.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s vehicle was found farther away in the Coral Gables area, and authorities detained the suspect, the Highway Patrol said.
