Suspected Burglars Arrested After Crash in Coral Gables

All three men face charges of grand theft, burglary, and criminal mischief.

Three suspected burglars were arrested after causing a three-vehicle crash in Coral Gables on Friday.

Police apprehended 24-year-old Devondrea Wilcher, 22-year-old Kareem Brown, and 19-year-old Kristopher Wooten. Officers said the men broke into two area homes, one on the 500 block of Loretto Avenue, and another on the 300 block of Manor Place. An officer spotted the suspects' silver Hyundai Genesis and started to pursue when they crashed into two other cars near the intersection of Bird Road and Granada Avenue around 11:20 a.m.

According to Coral Gables Police, the three suspects bailed out of their car after the accident. Brown and Wooten jumped into a nearby canal. Brown was caught by an officer in the water, while Wooten was apprehended after running onto the golf course of the Biltmore Hotel. Wilcher was found in the bushes and bit by a K-9. He was transported to the hospital with a broken leg and dog bites.

Police said that suspect and one of the other drivers were transported to Jackson Memorial's Ryder Trauma Center. The injured driver sustained unknown injuries and needs surgery, according to police.

Coral Gables Police said they believe the men are responsible for a rash of burglaries in the area in the past week.

"Our detectives are still working to link them to additional cases in our city," said officer Lauren Poole.

Officials said stolen items and jewelry were found in the car.

All three men face charges of grand theft, burglary, and criminal mischief. They are also charged with a November 5th burglary of a residence on the 6100 block of Riviera Drive. It is unclear if any of the men have attorneys.
