Suspected Kidnapping Father Arrested in Miami

Father who police say fled Tenn. with baby found in Miami motel

The father accused of kidnapping his baby boy from the child's mother in Tennessee and driving down to Miami has been arrested.

David Jackson was arrested at a Miami motel around midnight Monday night, hours after authorities had located his 7-months-old son with relatives in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Jackson, 35, will face carjacking and aggravated kidnapping charges, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Also arrested at the motel were two women, Brooke Collins Stumbo and Ashlea Melynda Laughlin, who were each charged on a federal complaint with kidnapping.

Jackson's son, Drake Boyd was found safe with relatives at a family grocery store on the 5800 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue Monday afternoon, setting off a search by local, state and federal authorities for Jackson.

Jackson allegedly snatching the baby from his mother in a violent confrontation in Tennessee Sunday night, stole the mother's car and drove the baby to Miami where his mother and sister live.

The stolen car was later recovered in South Carolina.

An Amber Alert was issued Monday, though Jackson's mother, Nora Reynolds, insisted that the whole thing was a misunderstanding and that Jackson simply wanted to spend time with his son and had an agreement with his mother.

Reynolds and other relatives claim they found out about the search for Drake through TV news reports and found him with a babysitter.
