Swimming Advisory Lifted for Haulover Park Beaches

The swimming advisory issued last week for Haulover Park North Beach and Haulover Park South Beach has been lifted.

The Florida Department of Health said it was lifting the advisory Tuesday based on a satisfactory microbial water quality test result.

The swimming advisory was issued last Wednesday, April 8, after samples of beach water collected at Haulover Park North Beach and Haulover Park South Beach did not meet the recreational water quality standard for enterococci.

The prevalence of enteric bacteria is an indicator of fecal pollution, which may come from storm water run-off, wildlife, pets and human sewage.

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County has been conducting marine beach water quality monitoring at 17 sites, including Haulover Park North Beach and Haulover Park South Beach weekly since August 2002, through the Florida Healthy Beaches Program.
