Swine Flu Still Spreading in South Florida

A student at Davie Elementary School is the latest to contract swine flu. Florida now has 69 confirmed cases with Broward leading as the county with the most infected (15).

Swine flu has also been confirmed in Osceola, Alachua, Indian River, Marion, Clay, Collier, Lake, Manatee, Flagler, Seminole, Okeechobee, Duval, Brevard, St. Johns, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Sarasota, Orange, Lee, Hillsborough and Dade counties.

Per instruction from the Broward Department of Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, Davie Elementary School decided not to shut down. Rather, it will be using the weekend to thoroughly clean the school before students arrive again on Monday.

The Center for Disease Control is no longer advising areas with laboratory-confirmed cases of swine flu to take measures that require early dismissals or closures.

The District, however, will continue to closely monitor school absences and reinforce methods for preventing the spread of the virus.
