Take a Walk in the Park

After $22 million in renovations, South Pointe Park is open for pleasure this Sunday.

Ever wondered what a 20-month, $22 million dollar renovation looks like? Get a glimpse at South Pointe Park this Sunday.

After years of construction, the 17-plus acres of South Pointe Park are finally ready for a grand re-opening celebration. Expect an affair to remember with stories about the South of Fifth area's past, free classes (including yoga and kite flying), picnics and views only a South Beach park could produce.

The massive overhaul includes impressive additions like a children's ocean-themed playground, walkways from here to there and everywhere, a raised walkway with plants, plants and more native plants, as well as trees in 25 varities, a 7,000-square-foot pavillion resting 14 feet above the park (hello, wedding destination) that's illuminated at night and interactive fountains. It's what the "Miami Herald" is calling a park for the 21st century. All for the bargain price of $22 million.

See your tax dollars in action. Grab your kid, your pet (on a leash) and a bite to eat and head to the park. Entrances are located at Washington Avenue and Ocean Drive.
