Tampa-Area Man Fatally Stabs Wife in Front of Teen Daughter: Police

A man is in jail after fatally stabbing his wife in front of his 15-year-old daughter during Mother's Day weekend, NBC affiliate WFLA reports.

Polk County deputies were dispatched to a house in Lakeland - roughly 35 miles east of Tampa - Saturday afternoon after receiving a call about a battery at the address.

Officers arrived to find Michael Lee Finn, 46, attacking his 34-year-old wife Kristen Finn with a knife.

According to a police report, Michael and Kristen, along with his teen daughter from a previous relationship, were near the family pool when the couple began fighting.

Finn tried throwing a baseball at Kristen but she took it away. He then punched Kristen in the face.

Kristen and the teen ran to the front yard and called 9-1-1. As officers arrived at the scene, Michael charged at Kristen with a knife, chasing her into a nearby empty lot, stabbing her.

A responding deputy witnessed the attack and ordered Michael Finn to drop the knife and took him into custody.

According to Polk County deputies, Michael Finn yelled "I should have killed her" toward his teen daughter as he was being arrested.

Kristen Finn was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Michael Finn was booked into the Polk County Jail. He's been charged with first-degree murder. It is not known if he has hired an attorney.

Sheriff's office records reveal that Michael Finn has an extensive arrest history, including four previous trips to the county jail and previous charges of battery domestic violence and battery on an officer/firefighter/EMT.
