Tanker in Rollover Crash on I-75 in Broward, Driver Injured

A rollover crash involving a tanker truck carrying liquid pool chlorine left a driver hospitalized and caused large delays on I-75 in Broward Thursday.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-75 near the Royal Palm Boulevard exit. All northbound lanes were closed as a result, but have since reopened.

The Florida Highway Patrol said three vehicles were involved in the crash. One of the drivers was attempting to change lanes when they lost control and crossed in front of the tractor trailer.

All three vehicles veered off the roadway onto the east shoulder where the tractor trailer overturned.

Rescue crews worked for an hour and a half to free the tanker's driver from the wreckage, officials said. He was airlifted to Broward Health and his condition was unknown.

The other two drivers involved suffered non-life threatening injuries. A Hazmat crew also responded to the scene because of the pool cleaner.

"The tanker was carrying pool chlorine, so we had that hazard, compounded by the driver who was trapped in the cab of the truck," BSO Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said. "The technical rescue team had to cut the roof off of the cab first, and then they had to cut the seat that the driver was sitting in, his legs were pinned."
