A taxi driver was hospitalized after he was shot during an early morning armed robbery in Miami Sunday, officials said.
The robbery happened around 4:30 a.m. at the Caras Oil gas station at 2810 Northwest 12th Avenue, Miami Police said.
The taxi driver, Jose Manuel Pena-Baez, who turned 40 years old Sunday, went inside the gas station to make a purchase then came outside and was confronted by the armed suspect, police said.
After the robber demanded money, the two got into a struggle and Pena-Baez was shot once in the leg, police said. The suspect stole his money and got into an awaiting getaway car driven by an accomplice, police said.
Pena-Baez was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where he underwent emergency surgery and was in serious but stable condition, police said.
Police said they're looking for two black males in their 20s, who were in a white older model Nissan, possibly a Maxima. Anyone with info is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
