Teen Arrested in Murder of Gas Station Owner

15-year-old charged in Miami Gardens murder

Police have arrested a 15-year-old in the murder of a Miami Gardens gas station owner earlier this month.

Damu Bridgewater was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder in the August 11 killing of Shahid Mahmood, Miami Gardens Police said.

The shooting happened at the Amerika Gas Station in the 15000 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue just before 1 a.m., police said.

Mahmood, 58, was leaving the store at the end of his shift when he was shot several times as he sat in his car, police said. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Bridgewater, who just turned 15 in July, was being held at the Miami-Dade Juvenile Assessment Center. It was unknown if he had an attorney.
