Teen Beating Suspect Needs 2nd Psych Evaluation

Wayne Treacy may need medication, hospitalization: lawyer

Teen beating suspect Wayne Treacy needs another psychiatric evaluation and possibly medication and hospitalization, his lawyer said.

The 15-year-old accused of beating Josie Lou Ratley nearly to death this past March was in a Broward court Wednesday, where his attorney requested the appointment of a second mental health expert.

Treacy had previously been evaluated by a psychologist, but attorney Russell Williams said the teen may also need to see a psychiatrist who can prescribe him medication and determine whether he needs hospitalization.

Judge David A. Haimes approved the motion.

The initial evaluation of Treacy, released in May, showed Treacy not only suffers from post traumatic stress disorder from the suicide of his brother, but he's also had behavioral problems since he was four years old, when it was recommended to his mother that he take Ritalin for ADHD.

Treacy has been behind bars since the March 17 attack on the 15-year-old Ratley at a bus stop outside Deerfield Beach Middle School. The attack was allegedly prompted by a text message from Ratley mentioning Treacy's dead brother.

He faces an adult charge of attempted murder.

Ratley suffered severe brain damage and spent weeks in intensive care. Now home, she faces months and probably years of rehabilitation.
