Teen Charged with Killing Man Over $10 Drug Debt: Police

A 17-year-old is being charged with first-degree murder after authorities say he fatally shot a man over a $10 drug debt.

Authorities say Mike Cadet and the victim, 31-year-old Michael Sears, argued late last month outside of Cadet's South Florida housing complex over a marijuana debt. It's unclear which of the men owed money. Palm Beach County Sheriff's officials said in a news release Monday that Cadet killed the victim, dumped his body in a nearby lake and tried unsuccessfully to pawn some of the victim's jewelry.

Cadet's brother is also being charged for allegedly disposing of the bloody clothes, jewelry and handgun. Authorities also charged Cadet's girlfriend with accessory because they allege she watched the crime and helped dispose of the body.

The Sun Sentinel reports Cadet is being held at a juvenile detention facility.

NBC 6 South Florida was unable to find an attorney information listed for Cadet in the Palm Beach County courts system.
