A man charged in the killing of a father of two during a Memorial Day robbery is facing another murder charge in the fatal shooting of a woman outside her Miami home just months earlier.
Jaquavius Matthews, 18, is charged with first-degree murder and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon in the March 23 killing of 27-year-old Shelsy Medina, according to a Miami-Dade Police arrest report released Tuesday.
Medina was exiting her car outside her home in the 4900 block of Northwest 199th Street when she was shot and killed in broad daylight, police said.
According to the arrest report, Matthews and another suspect were seen on surveillance footage in the neighborhood walking toward Medina. Seconds later, they're seen running on foot from the scene, the report said.
Matthews later told detectives he and the other suspect were in the neighborhood to steal a car, the report said.
Matthews and a juvenile suspect were arrested last month in the Memorial Day murder of 29-year-old Omar Alvarez in Opa-locka, police said.
According to police, the suspects approached Alvarez and demanded his valuables, then shot him outside his mother's home. He later died at the hospital.
Family members told NBC 6 that the man demanded Alvarez’s belongings, shot him and then stole his iPhone and gold chain. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
"They shot him four times, took the fake gold chain and the phone," father Omar Alvarez, Sr. said. "For $40-50 bucks, they killed my son."

The family said Alvarez was a truck driver and leaves behind two young daughters, ages 2 and 5.
Matthews remained behind bars without bond Tuesday, jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
