Teen Run Over Twice In Shooting Melee

17-year-old hospitalized after car fleeing high school shooting runs her over

A 17-year-old Miami girl was hospitalized Wednesday night after she was run over twice by a car trying to flee from gunfire following a wild fight outside a high school.

The fight started around 6 p.m. at Norland Senior High School in Miami Gardens, and quickly escalated, according to police.

In the scuffle, someone pulled out a gun and began firing at a red Pontiac as it drove into a crowd. That's when the teen girl was run over twice.

The girl was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she is in stable condition. No one was struck by any of the gunshots.

"It's something that sometimes is uncontrollable, because the fights turn from...it could be a minor dispute that you know, flares up into a big fight and that's probably something that happened here at the school," said Captain Ralph Suarez, with the Miami Gardens Police Department.

The car was found abandoned blocks away from the school with bullet holes noticeable on its side. Miami Gardens Police are looking for the driver of the car involved.
