Teen Suspect in Gas Station Shooting in Court

16-year-old facing murder charges in double shooting

The teen accused of gunning down two people at a Miami Gardens gas station last month made his first court appearance Thursday morning.

Eric Ellington, 16, appeared in Broward bond court on charges related to the July 25th fatal shooting of Julian Soler and Kennia Duran.

Ellington is charged with two counts of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery, and is being held without bond.

He appeared in juvenile court on Wednesday and is due back in court Friday after he told the judge he had no attorney.

Police arrested Ellington on Tuesday at an apartment complex on the 1400 block of North 64th Avenue in Hollywood following a joint effort by Hollywood and Miami Gardens Police Departments.

According to police, Soler and Duran were shot while pumping gas at the Mobil station at the corner of Northwest 57th Avenue and 167th Street.

Surveillance video at the gas station captured the attack, police said. It shows a Nissan Pathfinder pull up next to Soler’s white 1997 Mustang Cobra. Two individuals get out, walk over towards Soler and Duran, and fire upon their victims before fleeing the scene.

Police said they believe the suspects were after Soler's car, although the Mustang wasn't taken.

Authorities also said Wednesday that more arrests might be coming. They think there were at least two other suspects in the vehicle at the time of the ambush.
