Teen Who Threw Rock At Broward Bus Turned In By Mom

Santa-hat wearing rock tosser arrested: Authorities

The foul-mouthed, Santa Claus-hat wearing man who police say hurled a rock at a Broward County bus was arrested after his mom turned him in, authorities said Friday.

Demetrius Vidale, 19, was turned in to the Broward Sheriff's Office's main jail shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday after his mother had recognized him from TV reports, the BSO said.

Authorities say the incident happened around noon on Nov. 18, after Vidale got on the bus near Northwest 16th Street and 441 in Lauderhill.

Vidale and a friend were using profanity and were asked to leave the bus when they refused to stop cursing, the BSO said.

As he was getting off, Vidale verbally confronted the driver, then picked up a rock from the ground and tossed it at the bus, shattering the passenger side windshield, the BSO said.

A surveillance video from the bus captured the incident.

Vidale faces charges of throwing a deadly missile into an occupied bus and criminal mischief and was being held on $7,500 bond Friday. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
