Teen With Arsenal Under Bed Faces Murder Charge

Jose Torres faces murder and gun charges

Prosecutors believe a 17-year-old who shot his 12-year-old neighbor in the face knew what he was doing.

Jose Torres will now face an adult manslaughter charge for his role in the Oct. 11 shooting death of Anthony Alejandre in Deerfield Beach. Alejandre died Oct. 15.

Torres initially told investigators Alejandre was playing with a loaded gun and shot himself. Then he changed his story to say he accidentally shot his younger friend because he didn't know the 9mm pistol was loaded.

A search of Torres' room turned up dozens of high-powered weapons hidden in his closet and under his bed. Detectives also found knives, swords, brass knuckles and ninja-like stars.

The boy's parents said they had no clue all the weapons were in the house.

Torres was also charged with tampering with evidence, and six charges counts of possession of firearm by a minor. Despite the serious charges, a Broward judge set his bond Wednesday at $9,100.
