Teens Lead Cops on Chase After Hit and Run

Three suspects are in custody after hitting a Boca Raton officer, then fleeing on I-95

When we were 15, our idea of "mischief" (because back when we were 15 that's what they called it) was swiping one of dad's Michelobs.

Days after a 15-year-old was arrested for allegedly holding up a nail salon, another 15-year-old is in trouble after hitting a police officer, followed by another police officer's patrol car.

If you were stuck in southbound rush hour traffic on I-95 Wednesday night near Oakland Park Blvd., it was most likely because a Pontiac G6, driven by the aforementioned 15-year-old, hit a Boca Raton police officer then fled into Broward County, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

After managing to disable two of the car's tires, the three suspects, ages 15-16, continued on I-95 for a few more miles before the driver lost control of the car and hit a BSO deputy's patrol car near Oakland Park Blvd. exit, where the Pontiac finally came to a stop.

According to Boca Raton police officer Sandra Boonenberg, the chase began when police were conducting a surveillance operation in the parking lot of an L.A. Fitness where, Boonenberg told WPTV, a lot of auto burglaries take place.

When one of the officers got out of his patrol car to approach the Pontiac, which was moving from parking spot to parking spot, the teens hit him and took off.

The suspects were taken into custody and the injured police officer was taken to the hospital, but he is expected to be okay.
