‘The Pain Will Never Be Repaired': Daughter of Rickenbacker Causeway Shooting Victim Speaks Out After Arrest

The daughter of a Miami-Dade man who was shot and later died after an alleged confrontation on the Rickenbacker Causeway says she still can’t believe that her beloved father is gone.

“My mother said ‘I’m so sorry, but your dad got into an accident and died,” Alice Palencia told NBC 6 from her home in Arkansas. “My heart hit the ground. I went to the car and started balling my eyes out.”

Alice’s father, Alex Palencia, was shot while cycling along the roadway Wednesday morning after an apperant dispute between him and Kadel Piedrahita, who was riding a motorcycle at the time.

Piedrahita was questioned on Wednesday and later released, but turned himself into police Friday and has been charged with several counts that include second degree murder.

“He was very loving and caring. He lit up a room with his personality, and tried to make everyone laugh and smile,” Alice Palencia said when describing her father, while adding she is releaved that the man who pulled the trigger is behind bars.

“The pain he caused, no matter if justice is served the pain will never be repaired because he took my father away from my brother and I,” she said.
