The Party's Over: 232 Arrests in South Florida Crime Crackdown

Massive haul of drugs, guns and money in 2-day roundup

If the streets of South Florida seem to be lacking the usual number of pill-popping felons who may or may not be armed, that's because they were part of a 2-day multi-agency crime crackdown that yielded hundreds of arrests and several pounds of confiscated drugs.

Some 232 arrests were made during the August 19-20th busts as police confiscated 9,076 Oxycodone and Xanax pills, 174 pounds of marijuana, over 300 grams of cocaine, five cars, over $171,000 cash and 25 firearms including 11 handguns, 12 shotguns and 2 AK-47s.

Talk about a buzz kill.

The operation was conducted by the Broward Sheriff's Office along with the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Marshals Office and Hallandale, Fort Lauderdale, Lauderhill, Margate, Sunrise and Miami-Dade police departments.

β€œThis is the fifth time in 15 months that we have conducted this operation and the results speak for themselves,” said Sheriff Al Lamberti in a BSO statement. β€œIt shows how much we can accomplish when we have local, state and federal agencies working together to combat crime.”
