“The Playmaker” Dodges Rape Charge

No evidence to support rape allegations against Michael Irvin, prosecutors said

NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin had a knack for avoiding big hits on the football field, but he may have dodged his biggest one to date.

Broward County prosecutors announced that there isn't enough evidence against the "Playmaker" to charge him with rape stemming from allegations made by a woman in a lawsuit filed during Super Bowl week.

A lack of evidence and inconsistent statements made by the alleged victim and witnesses to the 2007 alleged attack were factors in Irvin's favor, reports the Miami Herald.

The woman claims Irvin sexually assaulted her at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood during the Fourth of July in 2007.

She claims that when they arrived, Irvin and another man tried to stuff money down her clothes. When she refused to perform sexual favors, the unidentified man held her down, at which point Irvin raped her. She was then forced to perform oral sex on the unidentified man.

Seminole Police had said they investigated the claims two years ago, but turned up nothing.

The civil suit still stands and requests an unspecified amount of money in damages. Irvin, who played for the University of Miami in the 80s, has counter sued for $100 million claiming defamation of character.
