Biscayne Bay No Longer Crappy: Sewer Department

Swimming advisory has been lifted for the Biscayne Canal and all other areas

It's safe to enter the water again - and just in time for the July 4th weekend.

The Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department has lifted the swimming advisory for all areas surrounding the Biscayne Bay and Biscayne Canal more than a week after a sewer pipe broke and sent poop in the water.

Bacteria levels have returned to acceptable levels after more than 20 million gallons of raw sewage spewed into the canal and infiltrated the bay. The swimming advisory system came under fire after unsuspected families spent the next few days after the sewage spill playing in the poop-infested waters unaware of the dangers.

Then the homeowners in the area complained that the county was more concerned about cleaning up the tourism areas than the filthy waters behind their homes.

The county has since apologized to the homeowners and even went door to door to give them an update on the clean-up status.

With no more sewage to worry about, now we can focus our hate back on BP.
