Authorities are searching for a thief who apologized as he stole cash from a Pompano Beach grocery store in an incident caught on camera.

The theft happened back on Nov. 9 at the Publix at 411 S. Cypress Road, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The suspect approached a cashier with some items and inched close to the register as the cashier rang up his purchase.

When the cashier opened the register, the thief said "I'm sorry I have to do this," and grabbed some cash, the BSO said. He fled out the front door.

Authorities describe the suspect as a white male in his 40s. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
