Thief Steals Miami-Dade Prosecutor's iPhone in Courthouse: Cops

A man who stole an iPhone from a Miami-Dade prosecutor in the courthouse didn't get very far before lawyers chased him down, authorities said.

Assistant State Attorney Chiaka Ihekwaba was riding the escalator to the first floor of the Richard E. Gerstein Courthouse in Miami on Monday when a man rushed past her, bumping into her on the way down, according to a Miami-Dade police report.

When Ihekwaba looked in her purse, she noticed her iPhone 6 was missing and chased after the suspect, with the help of attorney Jose Herrera, the report said.

The suspect was seen running and throwing the phone before he was stopped by a Miami Beach police officer. He was later identified as 32-year-old Dachel Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, who was already on probation for retail theft, was booked into jail on a new charge of third-degree grand theft. Court records didn't list an attorney.
