The Miami-Dade Police Department said the man who allegedly set off fireworks at Dadeland Mall to steal an expensive watch has been arrested.

Kevin Triana, 22, was arrested in South Carolina on Sunday.

Shoppers at Dadeland Mall were frightened on April 15 evening when fireworks went off.

According to police, a man was trying on an expensive watch at the Mayor’s Jewelers when he threw firecrackers on the ground and ran off.

Police said the fireworks caused panic in the mall, causing shoppers and workers to think there was an active shooter.

Some stores closed their doors as a precaution and kept shoppers inside until the all clear was communicated.

Eight people were treated at the mall for minor injuries, but no one was taken to the hospital. Another person sought in the case remains at large.
