Three Dead in Miami Lakes Car Crash: Police

Family and friends are dealing with tragedy after three people were killed in a violent crash in Miami Lakes early Wednesday morning.

According to detectives on the scene, speed played a factor in the crash at the intersection of Miami Lakes Drive and Miami Lake Way North in around 4:30 a.m.

Police say a Nissan Altima with three people inside was speeding down Miami Lakes drive headed west when the driver lost control and slammed into a wall.

The wheels of the vehicle remained off the ground after the violent collision.

The crash so loud it awakened neighbors, who rushed in to try to help the trapped passengers. "It sounded like a bomb went off," said Jeremy Walker.

All three people inside the vehicle, including two women in their 30's and a man in his 40's, were dead at the scene.

"Its a winding road and the speed limit 25 miles an hour because of the curves," said Det. Alvaro Zabaleta, "And it appears that this vehicle was going way about that."

Maria Gorday said one of the victims, Gesenia Llorentis, 31 was one of her closest friends and has known her since she was a little girl.

"I received a telephone call from her uncle and he told me that he didn't know what to do that Gesiena had passed away," Gorday said.

Now Gorday is grieving and worries about the 12 year old son Llorentis was raising alone.

"She had a very difficult life and she was a survivor," said Gorday. "She had points in her life where she even slept in her car. She always took care of her son. She was a great mother. She would do anything for anybody. She loved her family. She loved her friends. She loved life."

Miami-Dade police are still investigating and so far have not officially released the names of the victims.
