A toddler who was found wandering a street alone in Miami Gardens Tuesday has been reunited with his mother, and no charges have been filed, police said.
The mother left the 2-year-old boy in the care of someone else while she was at work. The caregiver fell asleep, and the child walked out of the house, police said.
The boy was spotted by a driver in the area of Northwest 152nd Terrace and Railroad Drive, Miami Gardens Police said.
Marcelino Monero said he found the toddler in the middle of the road, then picked him up and took him by the side of the road, where he had the boy stand until police arrived.
”He had a little fall already. He busted his lips (and) on the side of his chin,” Monero said, adding that the boy was a little shaken.
Police said he was found in a shirt and diaper and seemed to be in good condition. He was taken to the police station where he was fed, officials said.
Opa-locka Police also responded and officers went door to door trying to find the boy's parents, police said.
A break in the case came when NBC 6 photographer Ross Noble spotted a group of young women and flagged down an officer. One of the women turned out to be the boy's mother. She was eventually taken to the station for questioning by police and the Department of Children and Families, police said.

In less than two hours the woman came out of the station holding her child. She wouldn't talk to reporters, but Miami Gardens Police Det. Mike Wright explained what she told police. She left the child with the adult she normally leaves him with, that person was asleep at the time, and and she didn't confirm with that person that she was leaving for work, Wright said.
“The child just got out of the house, and it's unfortunate that we don’t know how he got out and she can’t give us that reason," he said.
