Traffic to be Impacted Monday Due to Ongoing Bridge Investigation

What to Know

  • Roads will remain closed on Monday from 107th Avenue to 117th Avenue on SW 8th Street.
  • Officials recommend people to leave with plenty of time on Monday, as school will resume at FIU.
  • Tolls on the entrance and exit ramps on the 836 near FIU will be temporarily suspended.

Much of the debris has been removed from the eastbound lanes of SW 8th street, however, the Florida Highway Patrol says the road will remain closed from 107th avenue to 117th avenue.

"There is still a lot of incoming and outgoing traffic of heavy equipment, police vehicles, fire rescue vehicles. The roadway cannot remain open as of right now," said Lt. Alex Camacho with the Florida Highway Patrol.

Officials recommend you have plenty of patience as you head out the door for the Monday morning commute if you usually drive down SW 8tn street.

Classes also resume Monday for FIU students who have been on spring break.

According to the university, all parking garages on campus will open at 6 a.m.

"Motorists should plan to leave early, seek alternate routes to their destinations, and most importantly, exercise patience," said Camacho.

The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority, known as MDX, says tolls on the entrance and exit ramps of State Road 836 near FIU will be temporarily suspended to help traffic flow.

As the investigation into the bridge collapse continues, attorney Matt Morgan has announced he will be filing the first civil lawsuit related to the incident on Monday morning. The lawyer did not specify who his client is.
