Florida law enforcement agencies want to keep kids safe while trick-or-treating by making it easy to find sex offenders and predators in your area and through strict instructions for sex offenders on Halloween night.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has a searchable database that the public can use to search for sexual offenders and predators in their neighborhood, as well as a free phone app that people can use to search for sexual offenders.
"I hope all parents will download this before going trick or treating and then use it often to help keep their families safe or to report suspicious activity," FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen said when the app launched last year.
The app has a "Search Sexual Offenders and Predators" and other features including the ability to search active AMBER, Missing Child and Silver Alerts, search wanted persons or stolen vehicle information, search unsolved cases in Florida and submit a tip about suspicious activity.

In addition, registered sex offenders are given strict instructions to follow on Halloween night from the Florida Department of Corrections. They include:
- Do not give out candy or other treats
- Turn off porch lights, close blinds
- No outside decorations to attract children
- Do not answer the door to trick-or-treaters
- Do not dress in costumes or masks
- Do not attend Halloween parties where children will be present
Any offender who doesn't follow the rules is subject to immediate arrest.
