Tropical Depression 15 Forms in Eastern Atlantic

A tropical depression formed southeast of the Cabo Verde islands, well offshore of the west coast of Africa.

Tropical Depression Fifteen had top sustained winds of 35 mph, forming Monday about 320 miles southeast of the Cabo Verde islands.

The storm was moving to the northwest at 8 mph. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm is expected to spread heavy rains over the islands. It is forecast to become a tropical storm by early Tuesday with rapid weakening expected to begin Wednesday.
