Tropical Storm Chris Forms In Atlantic Off Newfoundland

The storm was not expected to be a threat to land

Tropical Storm Chris formed in Atlantic off coast of Newfoundland on Tuesday, and the storm was no threat to land, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

At 5 p.m., the storm had maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour and was moving at 8 mph. It was not expected to change much in strength during the next 48 hours. By Wednesday night or Thursday, it was forecast to be a post-tropical storm.

There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

An eastward motion with an increase in forward speed was forecast to occur during the next 24 hours. It was forecast to turn toward the northeast then to the north by Wednesday or Thursday.
