Tropical Storm Gert Forms in the Atlantic

Tropical Storm Gert formed in the Atlantic Sunday afternoon, roughly 550 miles northeast of South Florida.

The storm was moving NNW at 10mph, but is expected to slowly bend away from the Mid-Atlantic coast of the United States with no impact.

Gert’s winds were targeted at 40mph in the late day advisory, with a window for mild intensification in the next 24-48 hours.

This is the seventh named system of the 2017 season.

This is the earliest that we have reached the “G” storm in the Atlantic Basin since 2005.
