Couple Chases After Their Stolen Truck in SW Miami-Dade

A man was apparently shot as he and his wife pursued a person who stole their truck Thursday night in southwest Miami-Dade, police said.

Just before 7 p.m. in the area of 9875 SW 166th Street, the couple was unloading their 2010 Dodge Ram in the driveway after a shopping trip when a male jumped into the truck and drove off, according to Miami-Dade police Sgt. Carlos Rosario.

The couple got into another one of their cars and followed the truck south of 168th Street. As they pursued the truck, the couple told police they felt what they thought was their vehicle being hit by rocks.

They eventually lost the truck and drove back home, and that's when the husband noticed pain in his torso and realized he had been shot, Rosario said. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

Police said there were at least five apparent bullet holes on the vehicle the couple took to chase the truck but couldn't confirm if they came from the suspect inside the stolen truck.

The truck was later found abandoned in the area of Homestead Avenue and SW 173rd Terrace, police said. There were very limited details of the suspect's description.

Miami-Dade police is reminding the community that this is an example of what not to do.

"When you're the victim of a crime, you have to be very careful and think twice before you do this," Rosario said. "Let law enforcement handle the situation. Don't put yourself in harm's way."
