Two Killed in Palmetto Crash

Hialeah man, woman killed after pickup truck rams into their car

Two Hialeah residents are dead after an early-morning crash Thursday on the Palmetto Expressway, authorities said.

A pickup truck slammed into the back of a car shortly after 1 a.m. killing Carolina Del, 43, and Isaac Antonio Lopez, 68, who were inside, police said.

The accident shut down the Palmetto 826 until about 5:30 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. They said the duo was traveling southbound on the Palmetto when they were rear-ended on the ramp on NW 36th Street.

The driver of the 2002 Dodge truck, Jeff Hood, 45, received minor injuries and was treated at the scene, according to the police report. Charges against the driver are still pending.

"Alcohol could be a factor but we're still investigating," Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Nelvys Hernandez told NBC Miami.
