Two Hialeah Police Officers Injured, Other Driver Killed in Collision

Man killed was math teacher at DASH in Miami

The Hialeah Police Department said two officers were injured and another person was killed in a collision Tuesday night.

The crash occurred at about 7 p.m. in the area of E. 5th Avenue & Hialeah Drive.

Police said the driver of a Volkswagen Passat, 51-year-old Orestes Amador Jr., was killed at the scene.

The two officers, identified as Ernesto Del Valle and Daniel Garcia-Muniz, were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where they were in stable condition.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office responded to the scene and is monitoring the investigation into the crash, officials said.

"The City of Hialeah Police Department extends its deepest heartfelt condolences to all those affected by last night’s unfortunate crash, which claimed the life of a 51 year old man and injured two Hialeah Police Officers," the department said in a statement Wednesday.

Amador Jr. was a math teacher at Design and Architecture High School in Miami, Miami-Dade School Board officials said. Crisis counselors will be at the school on Monday.
