Two Hospitalized in Police Involved Shooting

Officers open fire on stolen car suspects in Kendall

Two stolen car suspects were shot and a third was taken into custody after police say they were forced to open fire in Kendall Tuesday morning.

The incident began around 2:15 a.m. when Miami-Dade officers patrolling the area near the Nob Hill West Apartments at Kendall Drive near Southwest 103rd Avenue spotted the stolen car, a dark colored Honda, according to Miami-Dade Police Det. Javier Baez.

When the officers approached the car, it reportedly sped toward them, and the officers opened fire, hitting two of the car's three occupants, police said.

"Officers were in our uniform, they gave loud verbal commands telling them to stop," said Baez. "They heard the vehicle accelerate, they had no choice but to fire on the vehicle."

The car drove a few blocks away before it was finally stopped at a Pollo Tropical on Kendall Drive near 113th Avenue.

The two wounded suspects, identified as 22-year-old Michael A. Membrides and 19-year-old Ricardo Noa, were airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center, where they were in stable condition, police said. The third suspect, 23-year-old Marcos Acosta Quirch, was taken into custody.

The incident caused Kendall Drive between 113th and 117th Avenues to be shut down early Tuesday as police continued to investigate.
