Two More Horses Found Butchered for Meat

Police ask for tips in string of horse killings

Police are seeking tips from the public after two more horses were found slaughtered in a Northwest Miami-Dade field, the latest in a months-long spree of horse killings in the area.

Police photos show the horses hacked to pieces, legs severed and meat removed, and partially buried. They were found by a landowner and ranch hand just down the road from where police are investigating several more horse killings, over a dozen since March.

Authorities believe a group of men are behind the killings, selling the horse meat on the black market for human consumption.

Miramar Police set up a special task force after two horses were found butchered there on a small farm in May, and they've asked anyone with any info on the killings to come forward.

"We don't know when the tip will come through. But it doesn't mean it's not out there," said Detective Yessenia Diaz with the Miramar PD. "My personal opinion is that the person that has the right information that we need may be listening to this right now. And it would be extremely important for them to sit back and think for a second, 'What if this happened to your animal?"

Horse owners, including Yvonne Rodriguez, who lost her horse Geronimo, continue to express shock that anyone would mutilate their beloved pets in such a way.

"This is not what I wanted, how I wanted it to end," Rodriguez said.
